Pro-Choice Missouri is dedicated to building and sustaining a constituency that uses the political process to guarantee reproductive health, rights, and justice for every Missourian.
History
In 1969, the Committee for Legal Abortion in Missouri was organized with the goal of “persuading our legislators to respond to the people’s wish for a more liberal abortion law.” Years later, after the groundbreaking U.S. Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade to legalize abortion nationwide, the Committee joined the National Abortion Action League and changed it’s name to the Abortion Rights Alliance. Over the following decades, our name would change several more times but our mission would not: to fight for all Missourians’ right to choose abortion. In 2021, Pro-Choice Missouri has once again stepped out on our own, and as our organization evolves, so does our mission: to create a world where everybody can decide if, when, how, and with whom to start and grow their family, and to live in healthy, thriving communities.
